Sister Parish
The parish celebrated the feast of Saint Rita in solidarity with our Sister Parish, La Iglesia de Santa Rita, Teustepe, Nicaragua. The feast occurs on 22 of May. In 2011 the feast day fell on a Sunday. We had a celebration that included a Nicaraguan breakfast, a procession at the end of Mass (filmed), raffles, strolling musicians and more.
Guardian Angels has a sister parish, Church of Saint Rita's, in Teustepe, Nicaragua. Guardian Angels Sister Parish Committee oversees this relationship.
The Committee sends delegations to Teustepe almost every year and receives delegations from Teustepe about every third year. The relationship has existed since the mid-1980s. The relationship is primarily one of accompaniment (described as hermanamiento, cultural exchange, praying for each other, and responding to emergency needs. Since the 1990s, we work with Association of Kairos Foundation and School.
The committee sells fair trade coffee and receives two plate collections to finance their trips to Nicaragua. Sister Parish meets on the third Tuesday of each month. If you are interested in the Sister Parish Committee, join the Sister Parish Community Group.
