A Gift from the Diocese of New Ulm
Dear Beloved Parishioners of Guardian Angels Catholic Church,
I am excited to share with you an incredible opportunity that has been presented to our parish. The Diocese of New Ulm has graciously offered us a gift: a stunning Granite Altar. This precious donation is not just a mere object; it symbolizes the heart of our faith and the focal point of our worship.
As you may know, the Parish Council has expressed a strong desire to accept this generous offering from the Diocese of New Ulm. This decision reflects the council's commitment to enhancing our worship experience and deepening our spiritual connection with God.
The rectangular shape of the Granite Altar represents the new covenant, as described in Hebrews 9:15: "Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance." Its rectangular design, contrasting with our current square altar, serves as a visual reminder of the profound mystery of the Eucharist—a sacrificial banquet where the events of the Last Supper, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday are made present to us.
Moreover, the Granite Altar offers several practical advantages over our current wooden square altar. Its rectangular shape provides a more spacious surface, allowing for a more dignified celebration of the Eucharist. Additionally, its durability ensures that it will stand as a lasting symbol of our faith for generations to come.
Accepting this altar is not just an administrative decision; it is an opportunity for us to deepen our spiritual journey and strengthen our parish community. It is a tangible expression of the solidarity and support that exists within our wider Catholic family.
Let us remember the words of Scripture: "Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever" (Psalm 107:1). Let us offer our gratitude for this generous gift and seek God's guidance as we discern how best to steward this precious resource for the glory of His name.
I invite each of you to join me in a prayer of thanksgiving as we thank the Diocese of New Ulm for their generosity .
In Christ,
Father Joe Connelly
