Tips For When You’re Feeling Burnt Out or Overwhelmed

Life can be challenging and busy. It is easy to get overwhelmed. Overwhelm results from too much stress and too many demands on your time and energy and can lead to burnout. Here are some of the CAUSES of Overwhelm and Burnout, followed by ways to COPE.

CAUSES:

  • Lack of Control in your health / healthcare, schedule, workload, resources you need, decision making challenges.
  • Lack of Clear Expectations – High expectations and lack of clarity in knowing what others expect of you at home or at your workplace.
  • Conflicts With Others: having to deal with challenging people and situations
  • Absence of Support – feeling alone, conflict in significant relationships, death of family or friend.

COPING:

  • Focus on what you can control. Take time to do something for yourself each day,
  • Manage Time by prioritizing and delegating. Set and stick to boundaries in managing your time, resources, and energy.
  • Do activities that recharge you. Stretch and move your body. Read what you enjoy.
  • Make Time to process your emotions. Spend time in nature and with people you enjoy being around. Take a few slow, deep breaths. Get support from family, friends, professionals as needed.
